Boost Turku

Turku's student startup community. I chaired the board in 2025.

Boost Turku is a student-run community for people who want to build startups. In 2025 I chaired the board. I worked on strategy, partnerships and funding, and on keeping the rest of the board unblocked.

What we ran in 2025

  • Startup Marathon in March, a weekend where teams build and pitch a startup idea.
  • Startup Journey, a summer programme for students worth about 10 credits.
  • Omahomma, a pilot that helped young people find summer work, with around 30 participants.
  • An AI hackathon in July.

Funding

The earlier university funding had ended, so a big part of the year went into finding new money: the City of Turku, local business partners and grants.

What I learned

  • In a volunteer team, a task without one named owner usually didn’t get done.
  • We had more ideas than people, so we picked a few things and tried to do them properly.
